Part A: Sugar (The Sweet Addiction)
We need to be more careful about what we consume.
While most people are aware of the problems associated
with the use of Drugs, Alcohol, and Tobacco; there is
another product on the Market today that we all use and is
seldom thought of as a danger to our health. That product
is Sugar.
Sugar is a Drug; it is addictive -- it is a stimulant that
disrupts the function of each and every Cell in our Bodies,
and it effects our Moods (by making us irritable and
impatient): It brings immediate damage to our bodies by
causing Insulin Shock in all of our Cells and it causes long
term damage by wearing out the Organs that regulate
Blood Sugar (the Pancreas, Kidneys, Liver, Spleen, and
Lymph Nodes), not to mention the build up of Fat that it
fosters thru out the body and -- all of the problems that
come from being overweight !
Sugar is a harmful substance and its consumption should
be curtailed. Sugar should be regulated the same as
Alcohol and Tobacco; by prohibiting its sale to minors and
by way of excessive Taxation. This Tax would make Sugar
more expensive to buy, it would help to reduce the eating of
sweets and it would also serve to offset some of the
Medical Bills it generates. For the protection of our Public
Health ... we need to control the use of Sugar.
1
Part B: Honey (The Healthy Sweetener)
Honey is the best sweetener available to us. It has an
excellent taste, it is a good source of antioxidants (that
help to protect the body from inflammation , which is
thought to be a leading cause of many health problems),
and it encourages the cultivation of Bee Hives and the
maintenance of a sustainable Bee Population, which is
necessary for the Pollination and Growth of many Crops.
If we want to do ourselves a favor, we should turn away
from the use of Sugar as an added sweetener, and use
Honey instead.
For those people who don't like the taste of Honey, or who
can't tolerate it; there is Molasses or Maple Syrup, that
can also be used to sweeten our Food. While they aren't
as wholesome as Honey, still they are better than refined
Sugar and they can serve as an alternative to Honey.
Part C: Born Vegetarian
Introduction --
Our Physical Bodies have evolved over a vast period of
Time during which our Ancestors had to live with an
extreme shortage of Food and they had to eat whatever
they could find readily available at hand. As likely as not,
their Diet consisted mainly of Fruits, Berries, Nuts, Roots,
and Wild Grasses. With only an occasional supplement of
2
Meat, Fish, or Fowl; being available thru out most of their
Evolution. This Diet has produced a Human Physique that
is at its best when we have a serve Scarcity of Food,
when we eat mostly Berries, Fruits, Nuts, and Vegetables;
we have very little Meat, Fish, or Fowl in our Diet; and
when the sweets we consume have a high Fiber content.
The further we move away from our Evolutionary
Beginnings and the more (refined) Sweets and (fatty) Meat
we consume; the more we strain our Bodies as they
struggle to process Foods that were Foreign to our
Development. If we want to avoid many of the hidden Pit
Falls that come from following an abnormal, dis-
functional, Diet then we should be eating a more balanced
blend of Vegetarian Foods.
The Costs --
Meat is expensive to eat.
Eating Beef, Lamb, or Pork on a regular basis can place
an, unnecessary, burden on our finances; not to mention
the medical Aliments (such as High Cholesterol, Clogged
Arteries, Heart Attack, and Stroke) which are potential
risks with this Diet; and are expensive to treat. Why should
we spend our money on something that is costly, and
unhealthy to eat -- when there are other cheaper and more
nutritious Foods available?
(Foods such as; Bread, Pasta, Pizza, Rice, Cereals (as in
Oatmeal, Wheat, Rye, Cornmeal, Barley, etc.); Beans,
Lentils, and Seeds; Dairy Products (as in Milk, Cream,
Cheese, Butter, Yogurt, and Eggs); and Berries, Fruits,
Nuts, Vegetables, Olives, and Mushrooms; can all be
thought of as economical Healthy Foods.)
3
Another Food Group that doesn't seem to be expensive
when first purchased but with repeated consumption it
can lead to many health complications that are unpleasant
to live with. Refined Sugar (when taken by itself or as an
additive to other Foods as in Candy and Carbonated
Soda) can result in long term medical problems such as
Tooth Decay, Obesity, and Diabetes. All of which should
be considered as a part of the true cost of Sugar.
Environmental Impact --
In addition to the Personal Health concerns inherent in the
choice of a Meat Diet, there is also the adverse effect
upon our Environment that occurs in the raising of Live
Stock Animals.
In particular, there is all of the animal waste that is
dumped into our Rivers, Lakes, and Streams by the
Factory Farms that mass produce the Chickens we eat.
Unfortunately, the raw sewage that comes from these
(millions upon millions of) Chickens is often flushed out of
the Farms and is simply dumped into the nearest Water Way.
Resulting in toxic levels of contamination and damage to
our Environment (killing off thousands of Fish and Aquatic
Plants) and encouraging the growth of Mildew and Moss
in our Water. Changing our Water Supply from healthy
Reservoirs of clean drinking water into open Sewers filled
with harmful Bacteria. This is just too great of a price to
pay for the abundance of the low cost Chicken that we
eat.
4
Another source of pollution which comes from the raising
of Live Stock is the Methane Gas emitted by Cattle. The
amount of methane discharged from the Cattle is
extensive enough to contaminate the Air we breathe while
it also adds to the build up of the "Hot House" Gas that is
accumulating all around our Planet. This damage to our
atmosphere is completely unnecessary and it far out
weighs what ever personal satisfaction we might have in
eating Beef.
Compassion --
When we sit down to enjoy a meal, we don't think about
the Animals who have been killed to provide our Food.
These are Individuals who had a period of Evolutionary
Growth and Development that is equal to our own. They
have all of the same Emotions, Hopes, and Fears that we
have. When allowed to live free from our interference, they
will form Families, have Friends, (and Enemies); and be
very much concerned with the raising of their own
Offspring and trying to provide a Better Life for them.
And yet, we treat them as if they were only some
mindless, unfeeling, Creatures that exist just to be eaten.
We take everything that has been so carefully nurtured in
them by millions of years of Evolutionary Struggle and
treat it with contempt. We show no consideration for them
as Individuals, nor for their Breed, nor for all of the Trials
they have lived thru in order to reach their current high
level of Physical, Mental, and Emotional Maturity.
5
How can we do this? -- How can we be so Cruel?
How can we be so insensitive to the Feelings and
Concerns of other advanced, and intelligent Beings?
And how can we enjoy a meal that is ... based upon the
suffering of Others?
Each and Every Living Soul is Precious.
A unique expression of Life that can never be truly
duplicated. We should not be raising other Beings just to
eat them -- we owe them more respect than that.
Conclusion --
There are only two really different type of Diets that are
available for us to choose from; one is an intelligent and
responsible Diet where we consider all aspects of our
meal before we sit down to eat. And the other is a Self
Indulgent menu where we eat whatever "Tastes Good"
with no regard for the consequences of our actions.
What we eat is one of the most important aspects of our
lives. We can be thoughtful in our choice of Food and eat
a Healthy Diet; this is something we can do on a personal
level to manage our own Health and also to help protect
our Environment. Or we can be reckless in our choice of
Foods and indifferent to the harm we are doing to
ourselves, to other Beings, and to our Planet.
6
We don't need to eat Meat.
There are plenty of other Foods to select and there is no
compelling reason for us to continue eating Meat. Plus
some of the Plant Based Meat Substitutes actually taste
better than what they are replacing! We need only to look
"Beyond Meat" to find them. The alternatives are already
there, on the Grocers Shelfs, we should give them a try and,
after we have found some that we like, we can enjoy
having them on a regular basis as an important part of our
Diet.
We could adopt a Vegetarian Diet, be healthy in our eating
habits, and feel confident that we have made the right
decision, as we try to live in greater harmony with
ourselves and with Nature.
This is something we can do to improve our lives, it is not
asking too much from us, and we will all be better off once
we have embraced a new, and more understanding Way
of Living -- as Vegetarians.
Part D: Beverages
There is no drink that is more refreshing or more satisfying
than Water. A tall glass of cool, clear (distilled) Water over
Ice, is as good as it gets when it comes to having
something to drink. It has zero calories and it provides our
body with exactly what it needs for the maintenance of our
health -- liquid sustenance with no unnecessary additives.
7
Beyond the basic necessity of Water, there are several
other drinks available that are wholesome to consume
while offering our Taste Buds some variety to savor. One
of the best offerings in prepared Drinks is -- Iced Tea,
sweetened with Honey, and garnished with a slice of
Lemon or a small sprig of Peppermint. It is Delicious ! Tea
is a pleasure to drink not only because it tastes good but
also because it provides us with Flavonoids that help to
prevent cellular inflammation.
Plus, there are a wide variety of Fruit and Vegetable
supplements of; Orange Juice, Tomato Juice, Vegetable
Mixes, and all of the other Nutritional Shakes and Blends
which are both good for us and taste well besides.
There are many worthwhile drinks on the Market today
and if we make the right choice, we can have something
that is beneficial to us and flavorful to enjoy. Something
that will help to keep us healthy, is refreshing as it
quenches our thirst, and is fun to drink.
Who could ask for anything more?
